Fitness App

design

Commissioned in 2017 to enhance the presence of the web application, Swim4Fitness is a progress tracking app that integrated with Facebook, and was built in Ionic to pull in from the existing databases.

Mapping the user journey

Although the original website provided a blueprint for certain elements; the existing journey was clunky and not fit for mobile.

Job 1 was to establish an intuitive flow that users would expect from a native app. This was achieved by mapping all possible routes by which you could navigate around. Below shows one of the routes for the new functionality that was being added.

Wireframing the screens

Using Balsamiq, I then created an interactive PDF for the stakeholders to navigate through, to better understand how I visualised the journey.

The client struggled with a 'first run black and white' version, and so a midway 'wire/designs' were created, using brand photography and example icons.

Creating the designs

The existing web application was tired and outdated, but the client still liked it and insisted that the mobile app would at least sit along side it. They were really pleased with the final outcome and in turn asked me to lead the update of the web application.

Prototyping the product

Targeting specific user journeys at a time, I would create prototypes for different stakeholder and consumer research groups on request.

Opening up the prototypes for commenting, and inviting Beta users to fill in bespoke online polls, would allow for honest, anonymous, and rapid feedback that could be implemented into upcoming sprints.

The prototypes would eventually be implemented into an Ionic native app, that were downloaded by Beta users for further role out and testing.
